“Donald, if you’re watching, we’ll put your name on it. You get to be the American president who finally guaranteed health care for every single American.”

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senator-elect from Michigan who ran on a progressive platform with Medicare for All at its center, said Friday that he doesn’t care what the policy is called so long as it passes, even during Donald Trump’s lame duck term, which will begin in January.

Appearing on Zeteo with editor-in-chief Mehdi Hasan, El-Sayed was asked if he agreed with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who a night earlier pronounced that he wasn’t so sure that if Democratic majorities in the US House and Senate passed a Medicare for All Bill that Trump wouldn’t sign it.

“If he wants to pass Trumpcare-for-All, I’m ok with it. He seems to like to put his name on things,” said El-Sayed.

I’ve said this about Cuba. Trump is so desperate to make “deals” with other countries where they (pretend) to invest in the US and buy American products. Cuba is right there and they would genuinely love to be able to trade products like sugar for American-made goods (not because they are American, but just because the blockade locks them out of buying necessary things like capital equipment for power plants). If Trump removed the blockade on Cuba (as much as the president can unilaterally) I don’t doubt Diaz-Canel would get up there and praise Trump and call him an incredible deal-making president and actually commit to buy US goods; and if he had to throw in a sweetened deal for a hotel in Havana, sure whatever. So I think it’s telling that there was news a while back that Rubio was personally blocking the Cuban delegation from being able to talk directly to Trump, I think he knew if that happened then the Cubans and Trump would have a lot of common ground to work from.

I’ve heard others talk like this. There’s hope that Trump is so desperate to save some portion of his legacy, that he’ll sign whatever the Dems send him, so he can take credit.

But there’s something else that matters more: Prison. He can sign all sorts of great legislation, but he’s STILL going to prison, and THAT’S what he’ll be remembered for most.

Besides, he has PeeWee Himmler acting as his Wormtail, whispering poison into the demented king’s ear. He’ll never allow Trump to sign healthcare regulation that would save thousands of lives, especially those who can’t afford healthcare.

      It would redefine his legacy.

Right now, he’s set to go down in history for dividing the nation, being twice impeached, having 34 felonies, weaponizing cruelty as policy, and egomania.

Passing Medicare For All as “Trump-Care” would change the conversation to, “Sure, he divided the nation, was twice impeached, was a convicted felon, weaponized cruelty as a matter of policy, and was an egomaniac, but we have him to thank for finally getting us universal healthcare.”

      It’s really a no-brainer.

Without the Civil Rights Act of 1965, LBJ would have just been the guy who helped introduce oil money into national politics, literally stole his way into the senate, lucked into becoming President, and ramped up the Vietnam War. So there is a precedent.

          Yes, the name is irrelevant.

Whatever it’s called you’ll be amazed by how few times you ever have to say it once you have it.

The only times I’ve had to use a word for the “universal healthcare” that we have (which doesn’t have a name) is when trying to describe it to people who don’t have it already. Everyone in the world except America will understand “healthcare” in this way to begin with. If you really need to explain something that is not, you’d explicitly use “private healthcare” or “insurance” for anything else.

It would be funny though if it was named after his wife: ‘“I don’t really care, do you?”- care"’

His pragmatism is stunning and brave and very welcome! This is how you get shit done, fuck the go-high-when-they-go-low bullcrap

If we need their participation because they hold the Presidential fucking Veto and remain influential among a still way too high demographic that its better or free to have buy-in with , you work with them to help them come around to what you need to get done, especially when they can be bought so cheaply that all it takes is temporarily stamping their name on it or holding up on the raining down of criminal investigations and legal reckoning to ensure they let thru and that they would just pardon themselves from immediately anyhow.

Those largely performative things can wait, universal health care and possibly other goodies like banning legislative voter map fraud/disenfranchisement cant wait, shit needs to change and change soon. Remember: Trump isnt actually a “conservative”, he was a registered Democrat for most of his life and he’s shown he cares far more about flashy branding and photo ops and superficially being liked, consulted with, presenting the finished product he practically had zero to do with but that can benefit from his cultural and branding bona fides.

Sure Putin’s probably got some shit on him but it seems like thats largely at a stalemate where if he pushes the guy any further Trump might just say fuck it and unleash the coveted systems Ukraine wants and terminally successful sanctions that could actually finish the war in record time and decimate Russkies and even Putin. He could be the newly empowered Dem’s own higher controlled Opposition in Name Only President who actually fucks over his own Party for a chance at hitching his boat to the rising Dems and actually get all the cool shit everyone would have thought impossible.

Its gonna be pretty hard for the remaining parasitic DINOs to contain the damage when fucking Trump is already prematurely announcing working with DSA to deliver the goods America actually needs (by doing nothing more than shuttig up the traitors by advertising it and ultimatey just signing it)

Just goes to show how insidious all the paid-for fuckhead AIPC+insiders+centrists were and how cynical they were in telegraphing their fear mongering about gasp a “socialist” [insert left and right wing boogie men which are often diametrically contradictory.

The damage done to the completely fucked Overton window and loss of faith in the electoral system and the despair its caused by hijacking the peoples vote so it didnt matter which party it went to but bipartisanly never went towards policies that could help them, only to the interests of the “donor” class (who, lets be real, are nothing but political bribery and pay to play access gone rampant) is aggregately incalcuable and it needs to be mitigated and all its upholders need to be unelectable after they finish their current terms and neutered before they have even have an iota of a chance to capitalize on the current blue wave their DSA betters largely made happen for the party.

DSA holds the promise of a left Tea Party but the actual better Angels inherent to our “side” that is the counterpart to the Demons comprising the Republicans’/Tea Party wing (which is almost the entire party at this point in the same way the Dems were largely corporate/DINOs prior to independants loosely associated like Bernie and DSA)

When Hakeem Jeffries says stuff like this it’s terrifying because he’s a scumbag corporate sell-out, but when Dr. Abdul says it I’m on board and can’t wait to see what he comes up with, because he actually seems like a good dude we can trust to negotiate for us instead of corporate paymasters

Hakeem doesn’t say stuff like this and that’s why he needs to go.

Hakeem will describe vague notions of problems to be fixed with ultimate solutions that end up being “give health insurers more money”.

Abdul is proposing the policy, medicare for all, and saying “but call it whatever you want”. Hakeem will identify a problem, but ultimately will push dogshit policies that aren’t popular.

That’s part of why he’s so much better.

Let’s look at what Jeffries has said about healthcare in this country!

        • “we’ve established working groups [on] […] healthcare”
        • “We’re going to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits”
        • “we’re going to lower costs and we’re going to save healthcare”

This shit means exactly what it does when he says we need to “reform ICE”. Incremental improvements, no actual solution to the underlying problem.

The thing it works 1000x better with an El-Sayed or Mamdani, because they’re actually cool.

trump openly complains about how everyone around him are losers, and those are the people he picks to spend all his time with.

Throw someone with even average charisma in that room, trump loves them. Jeffries/Schumer fucking suck, trump won’t want to deal with them. He can’t get enough of Mamdani, and El-Sayed will be the same.

trump legitimately wants to be loved, he’s just a shitty person who doesn’t know how to get it and like a toddler he’d rather have hate than nothing. Any attention is better than none
