It was 2 years before Ellen would come out publicly on TV because she feared losing her show and 3 years before Matthew Shepard was tortured and dragged to death for being gay.
A lot of boomers believed and probably still believe that being bisexual was the lazy way of not making a choice. The 90s are pretty romanticized now but it was a scary time for a lot of LGBTIA+ folks.
