They’ve been doing it since reconstruction. I read the opinion once that labor never got true power in America because they kept excluding blacks for a long time. I think about that a lot. Hating a black guy was more important to many labor movements than class solidarity.
This is why labor unions really started to fail in the 60s and 70s. The union guys valued race far more than class and the powers of unions diminished.
They have been doing it well before reconstruction. Once upon a time there wasn’t that much racism in the US, but after Bacon’s rebellion the elites realized that whites and blacks were working together and have since then been pitting them against one another.

In much of the public’s eye, it is a culture war. That’s what determined their vote and support.
The whole point of eroding civil rights is to help billionaires.

It’s not a culture war if they make policy based on it. Can’t really be shouting from the fence at the migrants being detained, put in camps and deported or the women being denied abortions or the trans people being arrested for having to pee that the culture war is a distraction and if they only looked at it from a class perspective everything would be fine.
I mean, you can, but after a while it starts to suspiciously just seem like you actually agree with the fascists and the anarchocapitalists on the issues, or at least that you’re just as willing to use attackig marginalized scapegoats for your own political gain.
They’re enforcing their version of culture, a very white conservative one. “Culture war” doesn’t mean completely unserious, the consequences are very real.
It is a distraction from the root cause, they have people voting against their own self interest to make minorities suffer rather than demand better working and living conditions. It’s redirected anger wielded for their gains.
Culture war is class war. Radicalized right wingers are just a weapon.
Here’s the problem: the one with the purple hair wants civil rights and safety, and the one with the red hat wants to punch the one with the purple hair repeatedly. Can’t really compromise like that. Need to fight red hat and billionaire at the same time, which is bullshit.

You need to construct a vision of society that allows both to succeed. Everyone is struggling these days and you need to construct a society that values all people.

That’s not what they’re saying at all. Go look into some of MLKs teachings. Kindness and being gentle, in duality with an aggressive force like Malcom X was at the time, is how we win this fight.

The only way out of this is to vote blue no matter who, but a lot of so-called communists would refuse the call, and that’s why we’re losing. We’re not only divided by left and right, the left itself is being intentionally splintered by bad actors. The left needs to come together, play politics, remove Republicans from office, and only then will real impactful progressive reform be possible.

It is impossible for me to both have rights(one sides goal), and not have rights(the other sides goal)
The point isn’t to cede ground and compromise with them. The point is to try to show them that they’ve been duped about who their enemies are. It might still take some time to deprogram them, but if we could at least get them to put that all on hold and focus on the class issue, maybe we can actually get somewhere instead of spinning in circles.
It’s hypocritical republicans who LOUDLY incite and stoke any of the culture wars you refer to. Anyone with half a brain can see that since at least two decades ago.
Yet another reason in a very long list as to why both parties are NOT the same. But that ship has sailed, I have lost all faith in the american electorate. I really don’t understand this comment (maybe I need to go to sleep), but I don’t see OP referring to any culture war, and I can’t say Republican’s are the only ones inciting culture wars (they might be inciting the ones I disagree with, but it is a culture war to push for equal rights)
Republicans srarted the abortion bogeyman as a way to get religious people to vote for them. Before that, nobody really gave much thought to it.
