Feel this in my bones. When people started getting cut at my previous job, it was invariably the ones who brought joy to the workplace. The ones who made a difference between a job and a career. Apparently joy doesn’t bring in any revenue, so…

6·26 days agoI was the only one cut from my team of about 10 for AI. I had been there the longest (10 years). It’s all very transparent, but there’s nothing we can do against it.

Technology@lemmy.world•CEO of $248 billion cybersecurity company says workers are about to face a ‘Darwinian moment’ thanks to AI: Evolve or get cutEnglish
30·26 days agoI already got cut. Lost my 10-year IT job to AI last year. Now I’m working in a factory, packaging waffles 8 hr/day. The irony of me doing drudgery that could be fairly easily done by a machine, while a machine is doing something that requires agency, decisions and creativity, is not lost on me.
I want to get off mr. Bones Wild Ride. Forever.
The whole Stop Killing Games debacle clearly showed us that the EU, despite its rhetoric, isn’t interested in championing consumer rights in the slightest.
It’s true. If you take the time to get to know your cat, you will pick up on their specific mannerisms and meanings. There’s a very clear distinction in a “greeting” meow or one made in pain or fear. I love getting to know all their little quirks and personalities.

News@lemmy.world•Democrats Introduce Bill To More Than Triple The Minimum Wage
14815·3 months agoThey can’t pass it. They don’t have majority. Now watch as they win midterms and this gets forgotten completely.
I mean, why not introduce this bill during any of the 4 years Biden was in office? Because it would’ve been actual policy, and they don’t want that. This is political virtue signaling and nothing more.

Same across the world. A few weeks ago a former prime minister of Belgium was stopped going through a red light. In normal circumstances, this means you immediately lose your license for 15 days while you have to appear before a judge. Judge completely waived his liability, citing his “standing” as a former PM. Which to me translates to “this dude is above you plebs, he can do as he wants as long as he’s not too egregious about it”.
