Residents are sending a clear message about the violent deportations taking place across the US this midterm cycle
Minnesota voters left “I Voted” stickers on memorial sites for Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, the two US citizens killed by federal immigration officials earlier this year.
Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse at the Veterans Affairs medical center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Good, a writer and mother of three, were killed during a large-scale immigration enforcement operation in the Minneapolis region in January.
Donald Trump’s aggressive and violent mass deportation campaign has been a key issue for voters across the country during this midterm cycle, and has played a large part in Minnesota’s election.
My gran was extremely political. She loved everyone except for Ronald Reagan and George W Bush, who she hated with a fire that songs have been written about. Leaving my voting stickers at her memorial sounds lovely.
Now go after the scum that murdered them. And whilst you are at it go after the other ice scum that did all those other murders.
And if any of them say “Ich habe nur Befehle befolgt.”…whoops, I meant if any of them say “I was just following orders.”, then add another ten years to their sentence.Well, damn. That’s pretty awesome. And depressing. And sweet.
@daychilde@lemmy.world Couldn’t have said it better
Why are you tagging people in your post? It’s not necessary
because it’s the default on mbin, and i didnt’ bother to edit.
That is real and true beauty. Needs to be a national monument and preserved ASAP.
Well, now they can ask their new Democratic senator and governor for it to happen!
How about you leave their graves alone and let them rest instead of turning their memorial sites into a virtue signal about voting? Please don’t let any anyone like this near my grave if I die.
I don’t want you to be elected specifically , Klobuchar, I want justice, and people told me a liberal governor would be “better” and “more palatable to those interests”. So you better represent me and not Israel. You better represent George Floyd, Alex, Renee, as well as my neighbors and I. Not Ukraine. Not healthcare companies. Not oil companies. Not housing companies buying homes to make them too expensive to afford. Get to work.
Nice Russian plant with the “Not Ukraine” in there. Interesting that you mention Israel (the aggressor in that conflict) and Ukraine (the victim of Russia) and try to equate the two somehow.
I shouldn’t have to preface this by saying I don’t support Putin. Russia would have been way better off as USSR without capitalist reforms that led to Putin being in power. The Ukrainian government let fascist militias into thier actual military. There are pictures of Zelensky posing proudly with Swastika flags. I’m sorry but I do not support that and I never ever will, no matter how many times you tell me to “shut the fuck up” I’m not supporting your Neo-Nazi armies with my money.
I forgot Lemmy gets real pissed when you mention not supporting Nazis…
Not Ukraine.
Shut the fuck up, Yuri.
Ah yes, you don’t have a response so you’re just gonna be racist against russians even tho I’m a white American. Is me being not white scarier to you?
Russians are white too, you know.
Do Russians being white make you feel better about perpetuating xenophobic stereotypes?
You can virtue signal all you want, but nobody believes you, Yuri.
Shut the fuck up.
No. How about you respect the dead instead of using them as props for your party. Liberals really are sick sometimes.
You think thats sick? Just wait until you see what happens to sleepy dons grave
A grave is, by definition, a memorial
I want ice cream!
Sorry, the ice cream parlor is closed, Hun. But I’ll tell you what. Since you’ve been well-mannered this week, we can go to the convenience store and get candy or we can go home and have popsicles.
No! That’s bullshit. I want ice cream and fuck you for thinking that popsicles and candy are a nice consolation prize. Open a new ice cream parlor that berates anyone thats happy about popsicles on occasion! 😡
What
Its a metaphorical representation of your comment.
People are memorializing their unnecessary deaths by showing that they went and voted against the fascists that caused it. It shows their their deaths will not be in vain and their memory serves as motivation to continue to fight for a better country. It’s not just some virtue signal about going to vote. The sentiment runs a little deeper than that.
Well it makes no fucking sense to me lol. This comment does. Leave their memorial alone. Or leave flowers, not “I voted”. Democrats were in power when ice was kidnapping and killing people in Minnesota streets.
I admit the first time I saw this I thought it meant their graves. Memorial is different, it’s definitely fucked up if anyone put “I voted” on their grave
Seems to me like you’re holding more reverence for the dead than the living.
How did the results turn out, though? (Really curious)
Everything up for grabs on this election has either been won by Democrats or the result is TBD.
