If the original movement in the 70s was in response to political stagnation in the UK and the Vietnam war in the US. And the revival in the 00s in response to the US wars in the Middle East. Between Black Lives Matters, No Kings protests, and far right political parties recent win across the globe, where is the Punk movement? Where is the disenfranchised youth grinding out their anger on an electric guitar in an abandoned industrial building?

Edit: Thank you to everyone who suggested various artists. I’m going to check them all out!

They’re not terribly political - except for The Price of Smokes has Gone Up Again - but The Chats are the best punk band I’ve heard lately.

Im not hugely into punk. Id say my opinion is that the only 2 punk bands that have ever existed are the Ramones and the Clash and everyone else is some other genre. I understand this is not true but its how I feel.

The Chats, might not the Clash, but I do feel they are competent, creative, and stylistically punk and I do quite enjoy them on occasion.

Specifically, Temperature by the Chats, is largely a large banger.

Punk is arguably more of a mindset than a specific sound these days. The early days of punk certainly set a musical style that’s distinctive though. I’d recommend checking out The Cramps and Dead Kennedys if you enjoy the Ramones and the Clash.

No Dogs in Space is a podcast that does deep dives on some of these bands that you might find interesting.
