I’ve said it before and it just seems to be getting more obvious that they want us all on thin-client-like PCs with subscriptions for any service that requires actual computing power - streaming your games over something like GeForce NOW. Best case scenario, you’re allowed to rent a PC at exorbitant rates with somewhat decent hardware.

Honestly, it’s a tough case to defend. Sure game servers are fine and a bullshit claim by lobbyists, but who isn’t using their home server to stream pirated media?

I think we should normalize buying media again. I’ve been getting more and more albums off Bandcamp and buying DVDs and Blurays. It would be nice to see digital releases become decently abundant for TV and Film. I sometimes rent hard to find movies off Youtube. Always comes in clutch. Who else rents you a movie anymore?

The real thing even has benefits. I enjoy having the ease of getting both english and french dubs to my favorite shows. Means I can watch them with my family.

Yeah I buy media and host it for my home network. Holders, distributors, and platforms just need to make the stuff I buy from them something I permanently own and control without technical limitations, and I’ll happily patronize them.

Me. I’m not using my home server for pirated media.

      Fuck you

I use it to maintain sovereignty over my data and keep my personal information from being sold to the highest bidder and used against me.

We need to normalize owning and controlling our own data and not being cattle for the oligarchs to herd and feast off of

        Doth protest too much?

Listen I do the same and think its a worthwhile effort. I just have been hanging out in these virtual spaces long enough and I know what people run.

Did I say we should normalize anything else? lol

I actually think of this often, if more and more people self host and go to Linux etc the big bois are gonna crack down and make it illegal, or infiltrate distros and repos with bad actors.

2035 bingo card: Linux and a nas makes you a terrorist. In America, this will surely happen.
