I think some on the left act like cultists, but basically everyone on the right is in a full on cult and they either don’t know it, or think it’s a good thing.

I think the only ones on the left that truly fits that, are the tankies. And even then, can you truly call yourselves left if you’re an authoritarian? See: Stethoscope theory

I mean, if your attitude is “I’m an anarcho-communist and anyone not that isn’t on the left”, that’s pretty cult-like

I agree with what they wrote and I definitely don’t consider anarchocommunists to be the only real leftists. The left is a broad movement it just doesn’t include tankies. Being pro-oligarchy or pro-monarchy is not left no matter how much red paint you put on it.

I mean yeah, I don’t think I’m disagreeing with anyone here. I’m only considering a tankie-type a leftist insofar as they would pretend they are one.

Yeah, im with you on that one, i consider to be a anarco-communist myself and i recognize that it is easy to get cult-like about whats really left and even really anarchidt/libertarian.

No wonder why every leftist thinker i know about fought against (what they saw as) sectarianism, thinking freely tends to get you a little sensitive about theory and disagreement, resulting in many movments thinking just slightly different buy treating each other like the worse traitors.

But on a positive note, we tend to get sectarian about theories or practices rather than leader or countries.

          Edit : typo

        Stethoscope theory

funny enough, I was only able to find references to this on lemmy. It seems the same as (or at least similar to) “horseshoe theory” from what I can tell.

It’s a reference to horseshoe theory, just that most leftists don’t recognise tankies being left so having “left” come close to Nazis doesn’t make any sense

As is typical with most right leaning people.

They do it, so they assume the other side is doing it too.

They think it, so they assume everyone else is thinking the same thing.
