As far as I’m concerned modern Unix is Linux, BSD and all their successors, including Apple, PlayStation and Nintendo (I believe they’re BSD based) Unix itself, is an ancient and mostly dead standard.

Although I do hope for better Linux & BSD compatibility in the future.

I think I’d use bazzite on a system that was exclusively an entertainment system, like a minipc hooked up to the tv. But that’s super expensive to make myself ATM and I’ve already got a steam machine for that purpose.

I don’t recommend anyone use the AUR if it can be at all avoided.

The AUR is just a script that builds the package from source so you could just make your own bash scripts to do that? I don’t remember my cmake commands off the top of my head but I think it’s just;

cmake
cmake build
cmake install

Those bash scripts might also be in the repo as pkgbuild so you can copy it from there but you’ll have to change any ArchLinux specific command to debian.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to do here. But you can probably get out of this state with

git revert --abort

Then your should pull from source again to make sure nothing weird is happening.

After that, if you’re trying to rollback to a particular commit the command you probably want is

git reset --hard commit_hash

Which should drop all your local stuff and reset you straight to that commit.

Just incase you’re serious. Work on gnome x11 and kde x11 stopped ages ago, updates to the x11 server do not matter in the slightest.

As far as I know, there’s no DE with a good Wayland implementation AND a good x11 implementation. Gnome dropped theirs and when kde announced they where going to drop theirs. They also mentioned that it was basically unmaintained for years at this point.

I’m not sure how relevant these benchmarks even are.

In reallity, I remember back when omarchy released a thing that kept coming up was that “the install process took a minute or two” which, is pretty cool.

I also have a completely baseless belief that Omarchy is also probably the biggest distro with a tiling WM by default.
