Dear wage slave: the free snacks (and the private jet) are costing too much, we need to cut back because we are struggling.
A tablet is more like a clipboard with paper than a binder 📋
If you think of a stone tablet, it’s a flat thing with writing on it, same idea.
I like it, I was a USB-micro B cable guy for almost all my electronics. It was a yearlong transition for me to phase it out in favour of USBC, but it was just with upgrading electronics, not because I wanted to ditch the cable format specifically.
Charging and data transfer aspects weren’t much of my concern, until I learned about USB-PD and video via USB, that was pretty cool. I like the reversible connector, too many times I jammed the cable in the port the wrong way.
You probably know most of it so just some advice: Don’t format the Partition table (MBR to GPT etc.) on the disk whose data you wish to keep.
Shrinking a partition or moving it carries a small risk of data loss and will take significantly longer than creating a new partition (since data needs to be cut and pasted from one area of the disk to another). If your old laptop has an empty slot for another SSD or NVME drive you can plug that in, and still dualboot and having the new drive Linux only.
Also to deal with the occasional Windows cockups, just carry a boot-repair USB, the auto repair has fixed the Windows issue for me 90% of the time (the other times are usually boot order priority or other BIOS setting)
Honestly I thought about it, I’m terrified by the results, but even if things have to get worse over the next 4 years before they get better, the young generation has the time to turn it around. The will to improve? That’s still unknown to me.
I feel bad for Jimmy Carter seeing what his country has become…
At least following MAGA logic, starting next year we can say that Trump is causing the hurricanes, droughts, tornadoes and floods. Mother nature asking nicely hasn’t seemed to get it in people’s heads.
It would take some balls to convict and sentence a President-elect, and of course Trump would have major personal grievances against the Judge, but if justice is blind, he deserves the same punishment as any other New Yorker who would have committed such crimes 34 times.
Well speaking of that, Trump’s not going to have to spend a dime, he will have all of America’s money at his disposal.
Now we know how much it costs to assemble an army of bots and bootlickers, enough to net you a seat of power in government.
This time we’ll have all the evidence in the world… plus a 900 page booklet of stuff they were planning to do.
States that think the feds will actually be hands off are in for a rude awakening.
We need a lot of stickers that say “Trump 2024 - You Did This” put it on gas pumps, in front of stores, hospitals…
From what I gather, Trump has said basically everything in response to stuff, and people selectively hear or social media just filters through the message from him they want to hear.
Some of the stunts like swaying to music for 30 minutes and play-acting a McDonald’s worker make him look a bit cute and silly, but Harris isn’t held to even the same dimension of standards – by media, by voters and even by her own supporters.
There are hundreds of things Trump has done that would have tanked any other person’s campaign in the last 60 years. But his case is that he would do all of these things to somehow fix the country. He is selling fake snake oil solutions and people bought it hook line and sinker again.
Maybe not about elections, per se, but I think you forgot what happened between 2016 to 2020. Almost every day news headlines were like “Trump tweets dumb thing”, “Trump announces dumb thing”, “Trump does dumb thing”. This election period was quieter on the scale of things compared to then, and we’re headed right back for it.
I’m in shock… Good luck to you, American Democracy. It was nice knowing ya.
This time there’s no saying you didn’t know. This time there’s no saying “well more voters wanted different”. You get what you get, apparently enough people fall for “look over there” types of distractions in politics.
The clock to progress has been set back at least 10 years. I know digital-age low-information fascism is on its way to Canada and I am definitely not ready.
I get your point, but the folks at MSNBC have been consistently more critical of Trump than the other networks.
And you’re not wrong that the USA is fucked for even entertaining the idea of Trump, but you’ll be waiting a long time if you’re sitting around hoping people become less dumb, selfish and would cut off their nose to spite their face. Try not to lose sleep over it, but at the same time if you were able to get even one person who was Trump supporting, undecided or uninterested to vote for Harris that is a positive thing.
I hope you are right because I am feeling your username rn, I have confidence in Harris’ campaign but voters have to do their thing too.
Spoiler: voters did not do the thing.
There’s crazy of all kinds (I won’t hesitate even for a minute to admit I’m crazy too), but gosh darn, public modlogs are great, as it is very easy to see which removals/bans are deserved, which are borderline and which are just power trips.
It’s a case of Medicated Angry Geriatric Asshole.
The feel of Lemmy communities is a little different than Reddit, even if the software features are mostly analogous and there are many Redditisms used.
Your average commentor/poster will stand out more in a small community, there’s less of being able to post and then slink away.
People have gotten used to a lot more comforting features of modern Reddit, Lemmy in both the users and in the software has more of a “Reddit 10-15 years ago” feel to it.
