It may feel like those should be from 1865, but those tests were only outlawed in 1965. It was not that long ago.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this one. I loved GW2, even though I haven’t kept up with it in a while, so I’m interested to see what they are planning for the sequel. Orr also seems like a fun setting. I live the descriptions in GW2 of Orr pre-sinking. (Also, the gods (presumably) saying “we promise you magic” is funny, considering how horribly that ends in this case.)
However, GW2 is dripping in style, and I love the painterly style it has. I’m not seeing that same style in this trailer. It looks kinda generic, tbh. (The design of the mount is stellar, though.)
Also, being set in the past means that the Sylvari don’t exist yet, and the Charr are still the “great enemy”, so those two are out. We seem to have gained Kodan as a playable race, though (probably means no Norn as well, since they would have quite a bit of overlap). Also, this seemed like the perfect chance to give the people the Tengu they have wanted, but playable Tengu remains a dream, it seems.

politics @lemmy.world•The United States loses its status as a liberal democracy: ‘Trump is aiming for a dictatorship’
781·5 months agoLet’s be honest, the US was no shining beacon of democracy even before Trump. The system was rotten and everyone knew it. However, those with the power to change it have no incentive to do so. It was basically held up because the poeple in charge had some common decency. At that point it’s just a matter of time before someone came along that didn’t have this basic decency.
I think the people of the UK should take a long, hard look at how the situation has evolved in the US and decide if they want to change their system to avoid having only two parties dominate the political climate. Ironically, being a monarchy means they are probably more resistant to going down the same route, but I suspect the parties are going to get more radical as time goes on and the royals aren’t terribly popular these days.
(Opinion to be taken with a pinch of salt. I am no expert in these things and don’t live in either country; We’ve got our own radicalization and issues with our own democracy.)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some fire temple/dungeon type locations in video games?
3·1 year agoGuild Wars 2:
Citadel of Flame dungeon
Volcanic fractal
Molten Furnace fractal
Molten Boss fractal
Probably some others I don’t remember.
(Fractals are shorter dungeons.)

8·1 year agoMost of these read like ads. Most of the rest read like information found in an advertising profile (the kind of info that ad companies purchase). Only a couple read like actual things people care about.
Honestly, I have no idea myself. I first saw it at GDQ yesterday (or so).
Arctic Eggs kind of cooking going on here.

Greentext@sh.itjust.works•Anon notices fake advertising in video games
9·1 year agoWell, the problem is clearly that it is not.
(In case you are actually confused “duty calls” or “I hear the call of duty” (or “I hear the call of nature”) can mean the speaker needs to take a shit.)
You would also get the same problem as the op in Norweigan.
Hvor = Where
Hvem = Who
(Hvorfor = Why / Wherefore)
English is the odd one out here, it seems. (Also why I would rather be learning German from Norwegian than English, but oh well.)
Left one is Norwegian. E55 and E47 are not in Norway, but in Sweden and Denmark (Also would be “fartskontroll” in Norwegian). Max is spelt “maks” in Norwegian (Also it would be a compound word “maksfart”). It is possible that the two images on the right are fake, though.
I feel like Sea Shanty 2 from Old School Runescape is a strong contender. Even if you have never played Runescape there is a good chance you know it.
Before Oblivion Cyrodiil was described as a jungle in the lore. So, Oblivion takes place in Brazil?
Sylvari spotted.
I doubt he planned to kill the player. He was planning to wait at the finish line to beat us to it. Then he realizes who the final boss is, becomes coinvinced he can’t beat it, and reasons that since it is impossible for him it must also be impossible for everyone else. Then he tries to kill us because he is afraid we will prove that it isn’t actually impossible. That’s my read on it, anyway.
Lefse is a larger category. Lompe (also called “potetlefse”) is a kind of lefse. Lefse can also be made from wheat, and there are different kinds. A lot of types of lefser are also eaten as a snack rather than as part of a meal, with either a sweet paste or butter, sugar, and cinnamon on top.
I object to some of the information about the Norwegian hot dog. Firstly, lompe is not a tortilla: it’s made from potatoes. (You also roll it all the way around the sausage.) The sausages are either shorter hot dogs or wieners. They are usually eaten with ketchup, mustard, onion (raw or roasted), and usually some sort of dressing. Simple and good.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Lords of the Fallen publisher embraces fear of the DEI boogeyman, says it will not include 'any social or political agendas' in its gamesEnglish
262·2 years agoYeah, correct guess. In the game you kill the leader of the dominant religion (based on martyrdom and sacrifice) after they have refused to take action against the corruption in their own ranks, and allowed atrocities to be committed in the name of religion. Turns out (spoilers) that the head of the religion is also corrupt. Not really subtle, is it?

I could probably come up with worse sequels if given more time, but two jump at me immediately.
My mind is telling me Trine 3. The game sets up a whole story, and then just ends 1/3 into that story. It was hugely disappointing when I played it. However, I loved playing the game. Everything up until the (premature) ending was great, so that isn’t my pick.
Instead my pick is Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The game is good, but it is just the first game again, almost beat for beat. At least that is how I remember it. I was so excited to play it, but the whole way through I felt like I had already played the game before. I managed to get to the end of the game, but I had almost given up on the game by then. It was “more Ori”, but that was not what I wanted, I wanted to see how they would evolve Ori. Afterwards, whenever someone would ask if I recommended the game I would say that I 100% recommend playing either game, they are both great, but once you have played one don’t bother with the other.
