Indefinite prohibition, of the kind that was amended in the US constitution, denies the human desire to consume alcohol and pretend it can be legislated away. A cursory reading of the Wikipedia article on the capital-P Prohibition showed lasting effects in alcohol consumption (I guess, good in the sense that there’s changes in domestic abuse patterns, for example?) and organized crime (bad, with Al Capone and people like him)
With all due respect, “God said so” is not a good reason. The moment people accept that is the moment they give up their freedom. Because “God said so” is the cause of most of the suffering in history. Especially because of modern religions like Judaism, Christianity and Islam, they are the most bloodthirsty religions in the history of mankind. So every one of their messages “don’t eat meat”, “don’t eat pork”, “don’t drink alcohol”, “don’t eat cheese” has no logic and is ridiculous.
