Privacy@lemmy.ml•Historic Chat Control Vote in the EU Parliament: MEPs Vote to End Untargeted Mass Scanning of Private ChatsEnglish
13·19 days agoWOO! This is proof that we actually have power! I am so relieved to see that democracy still exists here!
A VPN? That routes the traffic to the other server, so the ISP can only see you’re connecting to a VPN. Most people recommend Mullvad, I personally use Proton and Windscribe, both free, open source, and trusted.

2·24 days agoI’ve never actually been in that community, but if you’re banned for “not being female enough”, then it probably isn’t a very good community anyway. I’m sorry to hear that happened to you. Also, I’m reading the rules, and rule #7 prohibits AI from masquerading as human, which it seems the Lady Butterfly account is. It is constantly posting in so many different communities, that I have speculated for some time that is is a bot, but it’s not disclosed on its profile. Has anyone ever reported the account for this?

2·24 days agoOh, I’m sorry to hear that. Is it the Womensstuff community? I was actually just reading their rules, and it says enbies are allowed if they feel that community is applicable to them.

2·24 days agoLet me preface this by saying I get you. I have also been sexually assaulted and harassed by women, and I agree that those people do not get enough punishment.
We have international women’s day and international men’s day to acknowledge the struggles of each gender, their achievements, and their importance. The actions of the rotten of society do not outweigh the struggles many face for their genders or the good they have done for the world. The women who did horrible things to you did not do so because they are women, but because they are bad people. I am sorry about what happened, and I truly do empathise, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate women.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why isn't there a Windows community? Is Linux winning?English
1·26 days agoLinux for most is an active decision and requires some knowledge about tech and an interest in it, whereas Windows is default for most and used by most people, not just people who like tech.

7·26 days agoNever had a problem on Lemmy or Mastodon with a VPN. If you create a Reddit account through a VPN, though, you will get shadowbanned. I made my Lemmy and Mastodon accounts with a VPN and had zero issues.

21·1 month agoLiterally how can they enforce this on Linux? It’s open-source, people just won’t choose those versions or edit that out of the code.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Should I subscribe to a data removal service (DeleteMe, Incogni, etc.)?English
121·1 month agoNo, I would never trust them. General rule of thumb: don’t trust Youtube advertisements. They seem very sketchy to me. Why would these companies and data brokers willingly delete your data by just asking? Not to mention that it would instantly resurface in a million other areas. The best thing to do is to instead not give out that information in general, or not make it obvious who you are.

If it’s about a topic I’m studying or I find something worth noting, I may take notes, but usually not. I actually like forgetting some details, as if it’s a book that I love I will probably re-read it in the future. I know that some people like to annotate their books, though I personally don’t (I tried it and now feel very guilty). That may be something you would like, or you can dedicate a notebook to taking notes on books.
Also, I am very happy to hear you’re getting into reading!
