Technology@lemmy.world•Vinton Cerf: ‘I refuse to take responsibility for those who abuse my beautiful internet’English
53·10 hours agothe person who wrote the article is… not a great thinker but you get some good answers from Cerf, so worth a read.
The first mistake the author makes is thst Tim Berners-Lee is not one of the fathers of the internet but of the world wide web. it runs on the application layet of the internet and came decades later.
The second mistake is corrected by Cerf. the difference between a discovery and an invention.

211·2 days agothis title is an out right lie. to be fair, the title doesnt actually say the backlash is because of ai but it heavily hints at it. which is not true.
its surprising because the actual text of the article goes into the actual reasons why the initiative is on hold. (not blocked). including CUDA was a bug issue.

2·5 days agoi would like to see the system ptompts. dating apps are designed to help you find someone who eill interest you in the short term but fail in the long term, or else they wouldn’t make consistant money. so theres a chance the ai actually matches you with someone permanently compatible and in tutn destroys bumble’s business model.

Technology@lemmy.world•Anthropic nears $1.5 billion AI joint venture with Wall Street firms, WSJ reportsEnglish
1·13 days agoIt was 100% about the web. But to be clear, for this conversation we have to be pedantic. when i say web, i mean the world wide web, the service that runs on the application layer of the internet. I am not talking about the internet itself. I was working as a software developer and a lot of people thought web pages weren’t going anywhere. AOL was how people accessed online but there were competing products to the WWW, the biggest competitor was gopher. Web pages were not as functional at first and were seen as a fad, like an online business card. So yes people doubted the WWW app/tech itself.

Technology@lemmy.world•Anthropic nears $1.5 billion AI joint venture with Wall Street firms, WSJ reportsEnglish
92·10 days agowhich wont affect anything mentioned in this article. you do realize when the dotcom bubble bursted, the web didnt gonaway. we actually do buy pet food online now. (seeling pet food was thr last thing before the burst)
its just the small companies that popped up trying tk ride the wave will go away. the crazy hardware ramp up will die down. anthropic isnt going anywhere

to be clear - i agree something needs to be done but nobody can define specifically what to do. how do you define it? what exactly are you taxing? how are you taxing it?
my argument, is that its a hard problem. bernie sanders is the only person i see coming up with ideas.
i can’t. its easy to say “billionaires must be stopped” but how? specifically, exactly what.
to give an example. what is wealth hoarding? how do you define it so it doesnt cover savings accout or retirement?
