Pretty much every single Indian I know loves it when anybody wears their traditional clothing, cooks their food, or even attempts to sneak in a word or two from their language. Nobody has a problem when someone wears a saree or a kurta and calls it a saree or kurta. Nobody called that cultural appropriation.

The problem was with western designers/brands repeatedly taking traditional Indian wear and rebranding without any credit to the source.

I don’t really have a horse in this race. But I do agree with that proper credits should be given where it’s due. We expect the same with art, right? So why not with culture?

Don’t know about changing my opinion while actively arguing with someone, but I have had opinions that formed for the first time when I read through comments of other people arguing. So, there’s still some value in arguing your own points for a third person observer. :)

I even separate my non-fringe comments from my identifiable accounts because who knows who is going to take over the country next year. I’ve lived in a third world country long enough, and seen enough things there to be paranoid even after moving to a first world country. 🤷‍♂️

It’s just what you’re used to, in a way.

I grew up in a noisy third world country and could’ve slept through a drummer 10 ft away. I then moved to a first world country and have now gotten used to the relative silence that I experience here, despite living in a downtown area of a major city. Going back home to visit my parents is a nightmare because I the up waking up a million times every night because of all the sounds around.

Visiting cousins/friends who live in the suburbs of my new country gives me the creeps because of how much more quieter it is. So I end up getting nightmares of being in some post apocalyptic world when I stay over at their places. So, I can’t sleep through complete silence either. 🤷‍♂️

She was an average looking woman, but good god, was she talkative. She could have an hour long conversation with a literal door knob. By far the most extroverted person I’ve known.

The saddest part of knowing her was that it was important for her that her neighbours knew who she was and she’d let the sane ones know what she did because it gave her a sense of safety knowing that there was a community of people who may shelter her temporarily or call the cops if needed.

I’d kill for a local light rail.

Look at the dangerous people who take trains. This is why we need a 1.5 ton safety blanket truck to keep us safe.

Eh, they have to drive on the same shitty roads, be stuck in the same traffic, breathe the same air, and on and on… sauce: been there, done that.

But those have a positive impact on society.

Other people don’t exist for our entertainment or amusement. If a “not beautiful” person wants to be naked, that’s their choice.

Externalized costs are a thing though. For instance, a coal plant spewing smoke (and radiation) costs everyone else money. A nuclear plant OTOH is usually responsible for dealing with all of its own shit. So it’s not always an apples to apples comparison to consider just the profitability of a project.
