yeah ok that would make meat more expensive (which some people would argue is actually a good thing) but not plant-based food. (since plant-based food is less limited) which is an interesting observation …

yeah the housing crisis is something else. however i suspect that there are bigger factors at play here than just a limited supply … theoretically, the housing supply could be arbitrarily big. the land area is not the bottleneck here (around 1% of the settleable land area of the world are used for housing, 97% is used for farming) and neither are the materials available … it’s more about market expectation (declining birthrate) making new housing construction seem short-sighted and not worth it in the long run. but this is a bit of a different issue and does not directly have to do with the buying power of the people, i think.

i think that it should be able to be sold, but not as food, i.e. only if it has special warnings on it that it’s not safe for human consumption.

We already have vast plots of land being taken up by parking lots and buildings. There is a hospital in my area that put solar panels over the parking lot. It is really nice. Your car interior stays cooler. Many buildings have their AC cooling fans on the roof. Solar panels would also shade those and help make them more efficient. All of these areas already have a hookup to the grid. Substation may need to be modified but it isn’t as dramatic as you make it sound.

yeah but check the economics. climbing on roofs to install 3 m² of solar panels is just not worth it. the total cost of the system is not just the cost of solar panels + land area, but rather solar panels + land area + installation workers cost. and installation work costs significantly more on a roof than on a flat plain area, which is why the plain land is cheaper overall.

uhh i think these solar panels will be pretty distinct so they’re basically a way to give the police a clear proof that you did it.

solar panels have been used on communication infrastructure since 1960. for example telegraph wires and their respective later versions (copper cable, fiber optics cable, etc) because these cables often run through the middle of nowhere and need a small amount of continuous power to operate. so solar + batteries is the least-maintenace, highest-availability, cheapest option. nobody wants to travel 1000km into the woods to replenish a diesel generator.

i disagree. food prices would not go up. prices are set by supply and demand. demand would not change. imagine a society with 1 million people. all of them need to eat, whether they earn their money through wages or get it through UBI. the demand for food does not change. i don’t see a reason why supply would change either. so prices stay the same.

i’m just gonna say it: your assumption that everybody should work is harmful. there’s lots of people who can’t work for medical reasons, but can’t get a doctor’s note either. for example, psychological syndromes are notoriously hard to diagnose.

that’s not really how people are, though. if people are happy, they generally see little reason to change something about their situation. everything else is delusional

my opinion is that as time marches on, fewer and fewer of these original consoles will be around, assuming that they don’t get manufactured anymore. so eventually, we’ll all be forced to use emulators anyways.

on top of that, i guess emulators are cheaper. you already have the computing device, you only need a new controller to attach to it.

you have to either use a 3rd party launcher or launch the game from the terminal though
