I’ll be honest. I listen to a lot of ambient/EDM while working, and I probably wouldn’t even notice if they started slipping AI content in, and probably wouldn’t be curious enough of the time to look into it.

The experiment they propose to test the theory involve two masses about the size of a cell. So, big enough that it might someday (in the next 10 years they think) be possible to detect the gravitational waves, but small enough that they can still be entangled. If gravity is truly quantum in nature, the gravitational waves will be too, which is what they want to look for.

About 10 years ago I was walking in lower Manhattan and traffic was bad. I kept up with a Google maps car for about 10 blocks. So for about a year I was in 10 consecutive blocks of street view, always in about the same place. Should have screenshotted it. Sadly it’s long gone now.

I just finished The Reversed Centaur’s Guide to Life by Cory Doctrow a few minutes ago. The central argument is that when a technology exists that makes a human better in a way, that makes the human a centaur (part human, part tech — the usual term for this would be cyborg, but that’s not as funny). What we have now in the age of AI though, Doctrow argues, are a bunch of techs that ride humans to get better. It’s not an anti AI book per se, but does a good job of pointing out how easy it is to fall into the trap of supporting a system that offers nothing in return.

I love F451, and it’s usually the book I recommend to people who want to get into serious/thought-provoking reading. It’s quite short for a novel and very approachable, the vocabulary isn’t too complex, the characters are easy to get into, and the story is compelling — it’s basically a light thriller. But when you put it down you can’t help but think, “wow, I just read something really important”

I think 8 double shots would get you in spitting distance of the LD 50 for caffeine, so maybe don’t try that :)

Yeah, we’ve definitely been seeing diminishing returns with the latest frontier models. I think that’s why when GLM and Kimi come in at 1/5 the price of Opus but are just as good, or when Deepseek comes in at 1/10 the price and is catching up quickly, they have to worry. There may be nowhere for them to go.

True, but up till now we didn’t even know if a tidally locked planet around a red dwarf could even hold an atmosphere (since red dwarfs tend to have much more powerful x-ray flares, and planets sit much closer to them than our G-type sun). So the fact that this one does have lightweight Helium in the atmosphere would seem to significantly increase the odds that there’s life elsewhere, since red dwarfs are super common and if there’s 1 that can hold an atmosphere, odds are that there are many, many others.
