  • I interviewed once for an IT manager role at MIT’s Whitehead Institute and I shit you not the hiring manager actually said the documentation for absolutely everything in their environment was perfect, and that everyone on the team documented things very well.

Almost everybody who works there in IT has decades of seniority. I’ve never met a lifer who was great at documentation, let alone an entire team. Pretty sure the guy was just fulfilling some quota of external interviews so they could promote whatever guy was to get the role internally.

  • Given that this is a gaming sub, I should mention that you can’t game on these things beyond the most basic things that could run on the cheapest non-gaming laptops from 5+ years ago.

Steam launches, but doesn’t support it natively. Since it’s emulated it tanks battery life. The graphics are so slow that anything other than extremely old games that are emulated in dosbox or similar perform worse than what i’d expect out of a 10 year old business laptop. There are exacly 0 ARM64 on windows game builds distributed by steam.

If you want something “different” to game on the answer is to switch to linux imo. At least there’s substantial development and resources going towards wine/proton and steam/heroicgameslauncher. I moved my current gaming rig with a 9800x3d and 9070xt over to a popular linux distro and it works well, but does require tinkering for things like FSR4. In games without FSR4, it basically just works. The performance can be better or worse than windows, but so far even with bleeding edge games i’m really happy. There’s even native linux builds for lots of games, and substantial overall developer support.

  • I read somewhere that they did some benchmark result releases for the original chips that put them ahead of everything but could not be verified when users actually got their hands on the chips.

I think any ‘stats’ they try to release relating to performance need to be considered as puff pieces that are more akin to marketing propaganda than any indication as to real world results.

I have one of their Snapdragon X based laptops that retailed for over $2000 on release and i’ve seen how it actually performs in the real world. The emulation layer for windows apps is not great, and there’s incredibly limited support by anything that goes beyond base windows apps, microsoft office, and web browsers. Battery life is atrocious.

Tools that I use every single day like Parsec are basically unusable on ARM beyond the most basic needs- I can remote into something and do a very simple task like running a command or opening an app, the framerate is just too low for it to be worth using for even basic web browsing because of the emulation layer and unsupported graphics implementation. Something like moonlight works, but that requires substantially more tinkering, which is the name of the game with Snapdragon based laptops.

The overall adoption rate is so low that developers don’t even target ARM64 for workstation use cases really.

  • Be me

Decide to stop using an account to roll over to a new one and abandon any potential doxxing

A regional sub bans me from using a rename -> delete tool while doing this. Maybe one or two others do as well.

Start using other, old account. Start commenting in places… get random bans because 10 years ago I used it to comment in a sub they don’t like which eventually became more toxic. Ok, whatever, I don’t need mildly interesting anyway. Leave the affected communities and whatever.

Put a lengthy post on the community sub that banned me for removing old comments trying to help someone moving from another country… ban evasion site-wide reddit ban.

So now i’m up to at least 4 sub bans across reddit and I guess i’m never supposed to interact with any of the things that don’t like old posts going away… but get this… multiple subs told me to delete old comments in a sub they don’t like to remove the ban. Why is a sub dictating what people do in other subs again? shouldn’t they not be brigading other subs by forcing people to delete content? Shouldn’t I have the right to delete whatever I want anyway?

Next step: GDPR deletion request on all my accounts after going through several rounds of rename -> delete again on all of them. Might as well make them nuke my shit and if they can detect me as ‘ban’ evading then there’s some real illegal shit going on.

  • Pretty much. The ownership fuck us and for some stupid reason the ignorant middle class on either side thinks that somehow it could be good for them, depending on if it’s their guy in office or not.

I’m a true leftist liberal. I’m 100% pro labor. That means I am neither democrat nor republican. The closest thing in the democrat party that’s aligned with my beliefs is Bernie, and they shit on him when he almost got traction.

Never forget that term limits were established for FDR because he was similarly pro-labor and got elected to four fucking terms because of all the good he did for the many. Ever since him all the politicians have done is chip away at what was built. Obamacare was a token effort by comparison to what he accomplished.

  • If you think the economy of 2021-2024 was ‘goldilocks’ I think you’re conflating massive AI investment with a “good economy”

Unless your job was developing and implementing AI solutions, you were probably getting fucked. The majority of big companies implemented RTO for softlayoffs, and then warn notices were a record outside of the pandemic year for 2023 reaching nearly 350k roles.

Signs right now point to AI literally holding the company up as greedy CEOs and Boards shoot for infinite money machines that will never materialize with current AI/ML techniques and methodologies. When that slumps the stupid valuation of companies like nvidia are going to bomb so hard the great depression of the 21st century will be underway.

  • Quote from the guy:

The Second Amendment is not about hunting. I love hunting. The Second Amendment is not even about personal defense. That is important. The Second Amendment is there, God forbid, so that you can defend yourself against a tyrannical government.

So does this count as defense against a tyrannical government? Given that he’s a propagandist / mouthpiece for the current said government causing harm to countless humans right now.

  • Yep, we definitely don’t have any kind of law prohibiting a business from disposing of food waste en masse.

We do have a ton of liability laws that would punish them from distributing leftover food though, should someone get sick after it is distributed.

Also don’t have any kind of thing preventing households from wasting food either. I suspect countless of perfectly fine meals are disposed of every single day, probably enough to feed the country twice over, if not more.

It’s a tough problem in a land of excess without near-total elimination of privacy and agency.
