in my area, particularly we have paper ballots that then get read by the digital machines, so if there’s any type of question about the legitimacy of it, there’s the paper trail to follow.

Firmly agree. I spent 6 years coding in python as a daily language, then I swapped to using nodejs for 10 years, only using python on and off. I went to make a basic script with python the other day and I had to look up how to convert a set over to a list.

If it’s strictly that definition there isn’t anything wrong with it. It’s when someone in that position starts blaming the other parties for their position that makes it become an issue. I.E Racism, sexism, etc

In my opinion, incels are in a similar boat to furries, just being that designation doesn’t make it wrong, however the actions you do while in that designation do. As a result, the designation as a whole has a black mark.

It’s completely fair to hate that you can’t find an SO and blame yourself, it isn’t fair to hate that you can’t find an SO and to blame others for it. The only time I would argue the counterpart is fair is if someone is actually smearing your image, but that isn’t what is happening with the incel stereotype. The incel stereotype is blaming others for liking other characteristics (usually ones that you don’t have [and yes that can include self describing yourself as an incel]), which is entitled/extremely selfish as a trait.

However if your definition is the stereotype definition of incel, and you can’t see whats wrong with the above… I don’t think anything anyone can say here is going to be able to change anything.

gray in the case of lies doesn’t mean gray areas, a grey lie when identifying lies actually means that the lie benefits both parties without causing harm to either side. A white lie is a lie that benefits the other party at the cost of the liar, a black lie only helps the liar at the cost of the other party, and a red lie hurts both the liar and the other party.

I would say that type of system could only be objective, while the intent does matter as well, I believe a lie that harms the other side, even when you meant otherwise would be either a red or a black lie, since it harms the other it can’t be gray or white.

It would be based off objectivity, not belief.

Whether someone thinks it’s a lie or not doesn’t matter. Although you do bring up a good point. Maybe having an additional category “mistaken lies” or something would help. It would also help decipher how often the person fact checks lol

Honestly, the ad-free* tiers is what is making me want to do away with ads the most. I don’t mind paying for a service, I do mind paying for a service just to get ads anyway. The double dipping is so annoying.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a service provider that isn’t actively forcing ads into premium tiers.

Yea, I do agree we would see more services become paywalled as a result. Not that that would be a bad thing though, not every site would go that route, the main reason sites don’t already is because they know that the typical user isn’t going to pay money to access their site, they will just go elsewhere.

The way I can see it, the ad supported model would go away, then branch into a few ways:

1. Sites opt for a paywall on the individual scale; but this won’t work as the everyday user isn’t going to spend $ on every site they visit, so they will just visit sites that don’t force a paywall
2. Sites opt into selective pay packages/subscriptions kind of like how cable worked, where you pay one provider, and it gets distributed across sites based on how much traffic each site got that was involved. I’m unsure how I feel about this route. If it’s done right I wouldn’t mind but, if it ends up being insane pricing like how cable was I wouldn’t participate.
3. Sites tone down the amount of ads, as the only thing they are making money on now is user data tracking, which doesn’t need a bunch of different ads on the system and also doesn’t really require user interaction.

Panic investors and companies realizing that their investments into it are short term and if they don’t somehow make a magic bean its all going to rot.

Yea, but im hoping the constant re-enforcement that it doesn’t work will sway them away from wanting to spend on advertisement in the first place.

maybe categorize it into white lie, black lie, red lie, gray lie etc, There is definitely times where a lie “can” be good. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s a lie but, lies that are made in the attempt to be well intended or to help someone are important to know as well.

Like for example, seeing someone with a really high red lie count would be a warning flag because that means they are willing to lie against their own best interests which can indicate issues with anger or rage. But someone with only white lies, or gray lies would be based less significantly as those are done with well intent to the target, either against or for the liars own best interests.

I would love a metric above their head that states how many times an advertisement has actually worked on them, vs how many they have seen.

I think it would revolutionize the way we see ads today, because I think almost everyone would have significantly low numbers.

ROI being like, if you put effort in are they going to ghost you? or what type of stat are you looking for on your ROI.

I feel like if I had to judge myself my ROI would be pretty low because I’m pretty anti social, but like that’s not because I don’t want to be friends or am a bad friend I wouldn’t say, I just tend to stick to myself unless invited to stuff and hang out in closed groups. So I feel like context on the ROI matters.

Sounds like a senior engineer at a company I had to communicate with on the daily. I was supposed to report tech issues and problems directly to him, since they refused to assign my area any actual techs and instead gave the regional. I swear if you used any term that seemed to imply the request would be difficult or time consuming the email would be marked as read, then marked as deleted with no reply. Then when a followup was requested “I never got anything”. There was a few times higher ups would get pissy at me for an issue not being resolved, I would just show them my outlook that clearly showed the “email deleted” tag on the email indicating that it was read, and then trashed again and they would go complain to their managers about it.

I think in this case they are actually using eminent domain for it.

Basically they are reaching out to families, asking for permission, and then when denied that permission going through the state/town and getting permission that way.

The easement taking up half their land was the “compromise” that the utility company gave them, because they already had a notice/permission from the town/state on the entire property. They were going to have the line no matter what, it was whether the current owners wanting to have part of the property, or none of the property. its pretty sickening.

There’s a lot of great choices here. I personally lean towards trustworthiness/if they are being genuine or not with what they are saying, or the net worth one, but since those are taken I’ll throw one more into the pot.

This might be more controversial but, a marquee banner with number of crimes committed by type. Nothing super detailed, but like have it say the type of crime, how long its been since committed, and whether they were actually guilty of the charge (not by the laws eyes, whether they actually were guilty of it)

this type of system would be basically useless almost 90% of the time after you have met them once, but, it could be super helpful for determining trustworthiness, how safe you are around them, intention and also whether or not the system failed them or not. It also would significantly speed up the current legal system, as every case would basically be a file the case, show up to the hearing and look at the tag and then verdict instead of spending months sometimes years fighting a lengthy legal battle.
