  • I’ve learnt some “hacks” from How to ADHD (both the YouTube channel and the book).

    Something that works for me is “bribing” myself. Either with a planner you enjoy filling, a calendar with stickers, or a reward like TV time or music (not food), give yourself a reason to do your activities beyond the activities themselves.

    Another one that’s not always possible for me, but works, is getting non-negative external pressure. Deadlines often get people to start, but that’s too much stress, and we don’t want that stress. A similar thing to a deadline without the anxiety is body doubling. It consists of doing your activity while other person or people do theirs, and you can report back in the middle or only at the end. The idea is that you feel like you need to do it because people are counting on it, without it being super stressful. You might feel watched, you might feel their expectatives on you, you might simply want to exchange your results at the end. However it goes, it might work for you. A variant of this is telling your plans to someone important and then you’ll feel like you need to do it so you can tell them how it went.

    My emergency remedy (only when I’m unmedicated for ADHD, because I wouldn’t mix it with my medication): caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant, so it has interesting effects on people with ADHD. Depending on age, metabolism, and quantity, it can be relaxing or “quieting”; it can also help with focus; and it can give a boost to productivity. A cup of good coffee and I do the laundry, cook, write back to people, etc. Now, be careful because a) you can become hooked to caffeine and become one of those people that cannot function without it, b) even without an addiction, if you use it too much, your body will get resistant for a time and it will lose its effectivity, c) some cannot tolerate caffeine well, for example, people with cardiopathies or bipolar disorder. I cannot drink it for long without causing havoc in my sleep and mood. Be careful with caffeine.

    And those are the strongest for me. I do recommend getting the How to ADHD book, even if you’re not dealing with ADHD but a mood disorder, a difficult time in your life, etc. The tips are helpful nonetheless.

    Star Wars: The Last Jedi for me. I don’t remember details, but I remember liking it and thinking it was nice to bring original things to the saga (especially because episode VII was almost a tribute to episode IV). Then fans complained and they reverted a lot of themes and things 💔.



  • I mean, he can be seen as another Luigi Mangione. The Luigi not of oligarchs but of genocidal people, which, at the end, are the same people (Trump, Thiel, Musk, Netanyahu, etc.). It is, again, a person acting violently about a situation that has many of us disturbed.

    Yes, his name happens to be in Spanish; I do not see how that’s damning for other Hispanic people. And I say this as a person that has no opinion about this type of violence (I cannot discern if it’s justified or not), and as someone of mostly Hispanic heritage. I do not know if I support this Rodríguez man, but I can understand his reasons.

    It’s one of his last books and it’s obvious his eccentricity is bordering madness already. It contains chapters like “Why I Am So Wise”, “Why I Am So Clever”, “Why I Write Such Good Books”, and “Why I Am a Destiny”. Some scholars say it’s a provocative or sardonic way of presenting an autobiography; I wouldn’t be so sure.



  • I love rainy and cold weather, but it’s a little obvious now that autumn and winter are bad months for me, while I thrive in spring and summer. I wish it was the other way around because I expect autumn and winter with such joy. In addition to the weather, I love the festivities around death and darkness, the winter reunions, and I have important birthdays in those months. But almost every year I spend these holidays/celebrations with some apathy. My writing slows down. I sleep more, eat more, but it’s nowhere as enjoyable as in spring and summer. So I can imagine that some people feel energized in the all-year-round hot places. Silly, but even if my body is healthy, I do not like spring and summer. I hate the clothing, I hate sunburns, I hate to feel thirsty… But at least I get the energy to hate and rant about it and not just shrug. It feels better. I should be thankful for the light and warmth, and I’m trying to like these seasons a little bit more.



  • Also, spite. A German acquaintance tells me that their family is going to vote for the AfD to punish their current government. In my opinion, Harris lost because of similar actions—citizens trying to teach a lesson or punish their party for not being what they want it to be (which is a reasonable wish, but I’m not sure about the action). Argentina also had some resentful voters that led to the clown in power today.



  • To divide indigenous people with our current borders is anachronistic and not useful.

    For example, Aztecs migrated from the current United States (or close, as there’s no consensus) into Mexico. I bet they carried on culinary traditions. If so, dishes from Mexico City are an example of native (native to their first and their second land) cuisine.
    Yaqui, Pima/Pima Bajo, Kickapoo and other groups lived and live both in the U.S. and Mexico. So, again, northern Mexican dishes might be “Native American” dishes.

    But that notion alone is problematic as it implies the indigenous peoples’ food was and is more similar than it actually is. We can have Quechua cuisine, Mayan cuisine, Cherokee cuisine, but grouping them up for a restaurant would be as easy as trying to open an “East Asian restaurant” or a “European restaurant”. What to put on the menu? Lol.

    I hope I’m not pedantic. I just don’t agree with the divide of the indigenous people by our current nations, and I’m debating the air over here.


  • I love it, but the test would need to ask our preferences about federation and if that’s a priority. In my case, I’m in this instance because it lets me read a lot of other instances (even the infamous triad). I don’t know if we have a certain personality; I just like to lurk diverse communities.

    *Mexican United States.

    Also, it’s not about the name but how that name came to be. Mexican United States (Mexico) are called that way because they’re the region around the mexica territory (today part of Mexico City). They’re not ‘stealing’ the name from anyone.

    The United States of America (U.S.A.) are called that way because they were the first independent states in America, the continent’s name: a well known fact at the moment. But today, most American countries are independent, so the people from the United States have been rewriting geography and even history saying there are two continents, that there isn’t a continent named America, etc. Sorry, but many countries and thousands of historical documents tell us that America was and is the name of the continent, and that it is not okay to take it for one country alone.

    I imagine the outrage this would cause for centuries if France (just to name some country) tried to pull this off. “United Communities of Europe”, “we are the only Europeans 🇨🇵”, “Europe is a country”, “there’s West Europe and East Europe, the Europes, but that’s it”…
