In England we had a three-party system for many a year. Then the third party (Liberal Democrats) showed their true colours. Then we had two. Now a new third party, Reform, is rising up on a platform of racism. They’re splitting the racist vote. That allowed a fourth party, the Greens, a noteworthy victory in a local by-election.

I don’t know how it works over there, but what I take away from this is that it wouldn’t have been possible without people who were willing to vote for not a third party, but a fourth party.

The reputational damage has already been done and people still haven’t moved to a better and more sustainable solution, so why would they back down now?

You’re absolutely right, and I agree.

When I started learning the craft of roast comedy, this was drilled into me. You never ever ever punch down. Not under any circumstances. That makes you a bully. But punching up? That makes you a fucking hero. If you’re going to roast someone, first you have to acknowledge that they are better than you in some way, and if you can’t do that, you don’t touch them.
