The beauty about lone nuts with violent fantasies is that you can’t really scare them into not committing an atrocity. Getting killed during a rampage is part of the plan, after all. If one good thing comes from this fascistic orgy of cruelty, it’s that tomorrow’s lone nut might make Hegseth his fixation. It would certainly do more good than offing some bigot podcaster.
That’s some Vishakanya shit 👀

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are things you like that you dont recommend to everyone?English
46·8 days agoThe Fediverse. I can’t be bothered explaining what the Fediverse is or how it works or how it differs from traditional social media. I can’t be bothered recommending browser add-ons that correct issues that might not actually be ‘issues’ to the person in question. And even if I did all that, there’s a 1/100 chance they’ll actually care enough to try it, and an even smaller chance still that they’ll stick with it. I don’t even tell people that the memes I send them are from Lemmy, because I can’t be bothered with the follow-up questions. My parents, for example, who use Facebook exclusively, could not be paid enough to even try the Fedi equivalent (Friendica). The average person doesn’t care about their private data being sold or the behaviour of tech CEOs or the abuse of their psyches by algorithms, so there’s no reason for them to go to the pain of learning an entirely new ecosystem that’s less ‘good’ but requires more effort. The average person simply wants AI-generated images of lions with racist anti-immigrant slogans printed under them, and Facebook is unbeatable in that regard. I just can’t be bothered. Plus, I like that it’s comparatively less crowded here. Let Facebook keep their race rioters!

Not word-for-word, but something to the effect of “I wouldn’t have raped someone who looked like her!” in reference to E. Jean Carroll, a woman he absolutely raped. The implication of his lie isn’t even in his favour, as it implies that, had she been his type, he’d have gone ahead and raped her 🤷
Evil cunt.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats best second hand market in your opinion?English
6·16 days agoThere’s a UK-based site called Preloved. I’ve only bought 2 things from it so far, but they were both like new and pretty rare. Reasonably priced, too. One of the things I got was an OG Steam Controller, which was selling for ludicrous prices elsewhere since it was discontinued, but the person I got it from sold it at face value. I think your success at secondhand buying is stronger when you find wee sites like that that most of the internet is unaware of. The best advice I have is to type your search query into your desired engine, and immediately go to page 2 or 3 of search results and start from there.

News@lemmy.world•EEOC Will Allow Christian Employers to Misgender Trans EmployeesEnglish
17·20 days agoI like my employees’ sense of dignity and security to be demolished 6 or 7 times per shift. It helps them be better employees. It’s great for business and, therefore, great for me and my bottom line. Especially so in public-facing positions, like serving or ringing up items at the register. If my customers can see a dejected and tormented person in front of them, boy, you’d better believe they’ll be back every day of the working week for more commerce. I even misgender my cisgender employees for the same reasons.

he doesn’t existthat the genocide in Gaza is a matter of “controversy” and “opinion” and is somehow “debatable” and “anyway, Hamas roasted babies in ovens then beheaded others on October 7th, soooooo…”Honestly, there are plenty of situations in the world that are difficult to parse and understand, and coming to a strong position on it is tricky. The Gaza genocide really ain’t one of them. I’m from N. Ireland, and currently there’s a lot of talk about a United Ireland. I was raised during the “troubles”, Catholic and surrounded by loyalists on every side, but I don’t know what the future will look like for us under an all-Ireland government. There are volumes written on the economic and educational and healthcare aspects of it, and it’s really not as clear-cut as “the partition was unjust and should be removed just as a matter of principle” or indeed that “the UK is so far off the rails that it’s skidding through the Australian Outback, we need to disconnect ASAP”. It’s like trying to wade through Finnegan’s Wake. Gaza, on the other hand, is like reading the Hungry Caterpillar then finding that huge swathes of the West are tangled up in it like it’s James Joyce during one of his LSD benders.

It’s both hilarious and disturbing that, 25 years later, we still have a significant number of people believing controlled demolition took down the WTC towers and building 7. But then again, it’s been nearly 70 years since the JFK assassination and most people still think Oswald was a patsy 🤷
Conspiracism is like gossip, but on a national level. It’s pure poison. It can lead to anything ranging from destroyed personal relationship and reputations, to the Holocaust (think of the shit said about Jews for centuries leading up to it). We shouldn’t be so blasé about that shit.
And the Epstein case had something 9/11 truth doesn’t: evidence, court-worthy and verifiable evidence. Prosecutable evidence. Undeniable evidence. Show me a bomb-planter who did 9/11 and the paycheque he received for his work from Dubya, and then we can talk. Otherwise, all you have is gossip.
