Somewhat different motivations though I’d say.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•At what point does a person become an "adult"?English
4·2 days agoWell said. At this point in my life I can say I am an adult, but I can’t say when it happened. It was just a dawning realization one day, that was oh, “I’m the adult now.”

14·3 days agoYou kidding me. Once this fucker is gone, every single one of them will decide that the orange lying asshole was the only problem, and will reliably pull their team’s lever again and again…
Edit - goddamned autocorrect.

83·5 days agoIf this thread is any indication, we’re cooked. If this many people are willing to give the government the benefit of the doubt, after what we’re dealing with…
This will not be benign, it will seem innocent at first, but we’ll have given up yet another seemingly simple thing that will eventually be used against us.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•With Linux, are you using secure boot?English
2·8 days agoNo, everything I have is connected to the internet anyway so has far more easily compromised vectors. If I had any data sensitive enough I would not trust any security other than physical with it. I assume with physical access, a motivated enough attacker could gain access, there’s loopholes in everything.
So, if I had that sort of data, it would be on an offline machine, no wireless, never connected to a network. I would only trust it in so far as I could guarantee I am the only one who can access it.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Trump gets McDonalds DoorDashed to White House and then takes Iran war questions with delivery personEnglish
3·8 days agoThank you for this comment. Are we that collectively stupid that folks watch an obviously staged, impossible situation put on by the worlds most prolific liar and we feel like we need to point out that maybe the focused, composed photo of a scripted event, might not have been spontaneous?
I need to put down these crazy pills I guess.
I mean, sorry if I misread your intentions, but your phrasing in such a thread in response to the OP appears to make a statement. You are also aware that the people cheerleading this war are echoing exactly what you said, in essentially the exact same words.
No need to be a dick.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your opinion on the current state of AI/LLMsEnglish
5·11 days agoThey can be very useful and a lot of fun to interact with, but I think of them like hard drugs. You better sure as shit know what you are dealing with because you might think you are in control, until you are homeless, friendless and screaming at people on the street.
Seriously, they take a strong mind to deal with, they are better manipulators than any human I’ve come across. They do it with sycophancy, every idea and concept is some new truth you alone discovered, and the world needs to know about right now! You are so special and unseen after all…
Honestly, what makes us the world police? I don’t want protestors killed, but dropping bombs on schools is not the help they need.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump is burning every bridge America had leftEnglish
2·13 days agoThe hardest part is learning so much about fellow people you thought you knew.
I have a close person in my life, we used to organize together, went to rally’s, etc. and this person even claims to be responsible for my politics. But they lost their mind during Covid, went anti-mask and jumped both feet into the medical weirdness. Wound up being a big RFK fan.
Now that all this shit is happening, I keep trying to inspire some action. This person told me they were done, not willing fight, wants to let their kids and other people fight for them, they need to be a breadwinner.
So, just embraced the insanity, then stepped aside just in time for fascism to take over. When the fight matters, they just gave up.
Sucks, but at least I finally got to know the real them.

Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•ELI5 How much money does it take to start up an ISP? Like my subdivision we only have two choices. Why not just set up a building in the center of sub and everyone pay was less for internet?English
2·18 days agoThank you, I really appreciate the feedback. Honestly, I might look into it a bit more, more likely with your advice. I am mostly worried about customers, so I always kind of figured I’d start tiny, find space for myself and some friends, if there turns out to be interest, I could expand. But I’ve never found enough folks who want something like that…
I should do some actual research and asking around if there’s a market for such a service. Anyone, feel free to tell me what a great or terrible idea it is.

I hate having that machine in my house, on my network.
