But if by demise you mean they don’t exist or are weaker, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

I don’t know the history very well but I’ve wondered how much the demise of the american mafia contributed to this.
If by demise you mean the type of stuff from the movies, that’s just because power was consolidated and there’s no need for open war anymore.
