UPDATE: folks either I’m an idiot or posting this caused the gods of irony to come to my aid because with a few more careful tries I was able to screw off the guard.
Hey folks, I recently bought this Pentax Q10 camera off of eBay, and so far I’ve had a lot of fun with it.
It came with this lens guard attached, which is a nice addition. However, I can’t seem to get it off. I can’t turn it, I can’t pry it up. It seems thoroughly stuck. Obviously I haven’t tried super hard, because I don’t want to break anything.
Am I missing anything obvious or should I accept that this is just how the lens is? It doesn’t seem to really get in the way or anything.

It’s a screw on filter. You should be able to twist it off. Get yourself a silicone jar opener pad or the like, and you should be able to get it off.

Yeah, you don’t have to torque those filters very hard to put them on but taking them off is a whole different story
That’s alright, if it’s new to you, you simply didn’t want to damage it. If they sit around for a while, they magically tend to accumulate the tiniest amount of gunk, which makes them hard to unscrew - or maybe someone put tue gronk on it, which, was already mentioned, you really shouldn’t do.
it looks like it’s screwed into the filter threads. if so, it should just unscrew.
I can’t see the image clearly, can you still see through the lens with the ‘lens guard’ on? it might just be a UV filter, which a lot of photographers leave on their lens all the time for protection
it screws off like the lid on a jar. might just need a strong twist if it’s been sitting for a while.
As the others have said, it unscrews. I have nothing meaningful to contribute, so I’ll spin this yarn instead:
For the first time, I took my full birding rig with me on my last motorcycle trip. If you need to undo a recalcitrant filter from the end of your lens barrel I advise you just chuck it in your motorcycle luggage. The vibrations, most likely from some stints of off-road riding, unscrewed the filters on all of my lenses inside my camera case. Strangely enough it did not knock off any of my lens caps in the process.
Insofar as I’m able to determine this experience did not break any of my in-lens image stabilizers or autofocus motors.
Sometimes they can kinda get stuck, don’t beat yourself up.
