What are you up to? Hitting any walls, enjoying tinkering, or is everything going smooth?

I almost finished my forgejo-komodo gitops workflow, but I’m hitting issues with file ownership in the stacks deployed by Komodo. I can’t find the time currently to dive in deeper, but I swear I am this close! :)

Recent talks about RSS are making me thinking about finally replacing my barely maintained Selfoss with FreshRSS, but I’m not in a hurry. I’ve been adding some nice blogs lately and removed some sources with too much output for my liking and now I actually read most of what’s coming in.

Added another wordpress instance to our server (all docker-compose). The craziest thing happened where the second site was kind of working but broken in very strange ways. Well, turns out that for the second site Caddy was pointed to the files of the first instance while passing php_fastcgi to the new one 🤯 😵‍💫 What’s more, having different relative paths for the Caddy container and the wordpress container was not as simple as I thought it was. The devil (the hours of debugging) is always in the details. Managed to solve it in the end!

having a friend host my nextcloud instance (badly) since i moved and can now only get starlink, which is not amenable to hosting things accessible outside the home network. lots of things to take care of before building a tunnel out to that so i can self-host things again. using nabu casa for the home assistant stuff in the interim

    What’s up?

    Apparently not my nginx >_<

Small trick that took me far too much time to realize and that may interest other French out there: if you own a relatively recent freebox (The box given by Free Telecom, one of our main ISPs) you can run docker images on it! That’s a way to set up a server really easily and painlessly.

I have finally taken the time to get rid of tailscale today, while i love the software, the people building it and how magically easy they have made networking - there have been too many hiccups that have made me want to switch away. Such as, terrible battery optimization on Android phones(up to 20-30% battery drainage a day) no idea how this is an issue as normal Wireguard barely drains 1-3% a day.

Now running a Wireguard server off my brand-spanking new UDR7 (what a dream this machine is to use). Got that set up with DDNS and a custom domain. I’m extra happy i managed to find a good way around not having to use Cloudflare as that feels like selling my soul to the devil. So shoutout to DynV6 for being a really great service, free, simple and allowing custom domains.

Ive combined that with Caddy on my server, so now im able to get https://sub.domain.com/ on my local network aswell as over wireguard remotely! Next weekend will be dedicated to learning Pangolin 🤟

Broke my 'arr stack for a few days while I worked on getting port forwarding from ProtonVPN working in Gluetun, then works on getting a matching dockermod activated in qbittorrent. But it works now! And my whole 'arr stack is attached to the VPN and I have the forwarded port active for my private trackers.

I ordered two refurbished drives the same as my others but these two need their little cable adapter for the power disable, but none of the previous ones needed it even though they’re all the same

Some WD dc hc530 drives I got from server part deals. They usually come with a little sata to sata power cable to get around this issue but I’ve never had to use it before until this latest batch.

Its not really a big deal but I had to open up my server and makes it more annoying for cable management.

I even tried them in the slots where the same type of drives were in to see if it was just a slot issue or something

Spun up a Home Assistant instance in KVM, getting dns error not found when trying to connect.

Probably because of how I set up my bridge, but It’s been ages since I had any fluency with network config so it’ll be a journey.

I’m in my SSO moment. Been trying Authelia - too hard configuring - then TinyAuth - very nice but limited -, Pocket-ID - a jewel but allows only passkeys -. Now back to Authelia.

My Plex server mysteriously quit working and I haven’t had the opportunity to look into it yet. I also want to get immich running and get my pics out of the clutches of Google.

Played around a bit with hosting Flohmarkt and Manyfold. Promising fediverse projects, but still a bit early days.

Also looked a bit into running Piefed via Podman, but didn’t progress much with it. Looks easy enough though in general.
