As a left winger, I’m probably more okay with listening to a song by an artist that doesn’t represent my views as long as it’s not too crazy and I’m not actively supporting them.
Imo art has value regardless of its source.
Right wingers for some reason feel betrayed. I guess to them it’s about not crossing tribes rather than going where their inspiration takes them.
I think another part of it is that the art itself isn’t often overtly political. Maybe that even plays into the sense of betrayal because of how often the politics they support aren’t ones that can be talked about openly and they feel like since they avoid saying what they are thinking, everyone else should also.
