Trump cultists are trying to spin his insane actions as good and tough love. There really is no bottom floor Trump can hit, even when it comes to making their lives and everyone else’s collectively worse.

1920’s 2: electric boogaloo. Good luck everyone. Wish it didn’t have to be this way. Do what you can to prepare your families and your communities, because this is going to hurt.

If we get the chance in the 1930s, let’s make sure we pull an FDR and not a Hitler, please?

Edit: people aren’t going to blame the Democrats? What timeline are you all on?

Trump dismantles regulatory and social support agencies and enacts tariffs on a level we haven’t seen since Coolidge and Hoover caused the Great Depression

The collapse is going to be the democrats fault

Keep on keepin’ on my friend

Edit - whoosh? You’re saying it’ll be blamed on the democrats I think? Either way I don’t think it’ll be that easy this time. They fucked up too much stuff too fast, all while obviously in complete control. ‘Oft evil will shall evil mar’ and all that.

As terrible as this is and will be, I have hope we can change a lot of minds. Social security started from the ashes of the great depression. It can be done again.

Man this dude really hates America.

I’ve never seen anyone causing that country so much harm in so little time. It’s that he and his cronies are incompetent as fuck or they would have done it even faster.

    Ok so…

SHEIN and TEMU are done, as in, just over, for Americans, and possibly just in general.

Their business models basically no longer work.

Almost 50% on Vietnam and Cambodia?

Ok, thats at least an instant 50% price hike on… most clothes Americans buy?

    Fucking…computer hardware?

Jesus Christ, throw another 30% on already bonkers GPU prices.

    Cars? Beyond fucked.

Components very often get shipped to one country, partially assembled, cross the border, get assembled more, do that again a few times before final assembly… oh right, and they all are massively computerized now.

Yeeep. Great Depression 2.0 here we come, certainly for America, and probably to a lesser extent for the rest of the world as the US can no longer consume imports… and we will almost certainly have a massive financial collapse, which will almost certainly to at least some extent fuck over finances everywhere else.

Every less developed country that just has its currency pegged to the USD is now fucked and will be in chaos as they figure out how to respond to this.

I wonder if the alienation of the rest of the world from the US by Trump, especially with these tariffs, was a Putin idea. Make Russia’s enemies turn against one another so they won’t band together. Pull their economies apart so that the EU won’t have armies and defense mechanisms at hand, and so that the US, Mexico, and Canada are no longer trusting each other, and so on. If all the countries don’t trust one another, they are fractured and weak, unable to stand up to Russia’s invasions.

If Americans had a concept of the world beyond their borders they’d realise that.

Although, even if they did look at a world map once. they would still fall for the whole “American Imperialism propaganda” that gets parroted here on Lemmy.

Lol 3.5 years! The damage done in just these three months would take decades to fix. I think it’s very likely that America will never recover from four years of Trump.

If the American Experiment produces a President Trump, can we now conclusively say that it was a failure?

You make it sound like it’ll be over in 3.5 years. This damage is deep and won’t suddenly go away when Trump is gone (IF he’s gone).

They tried. Twice. Before the election. One was even a Ukraine trained sniper - which strangely doesn’t get covered as much as the “got kicked out of the gun club” shooter.

that won’t actually fix the problem as then we’d have a less known moron that is spoon fed by the rich in charge with nothing for anything for experience. Just a rich asshole.

therell still be a shit ton of racist turds in this nation. Just waiting to galvanize behind their next Jesus.

Ironically what might best work could be to invite centrists from Reddit over to Lemmy, thereby exposing them to fresh POVs.

However, take one glance at the Local feed on Lemmy.ml (which those without an account will see, as Local is the default and that is the #1 hit by a Google search) and you will see why that will never happen. Or even just this thread here on lemmy.world. Mainstream normal people are not welcomed here.

I’m not even saying that we shouldn’t be a leftist echo chamber - sounds weird to say about lemmy.world I know, but in comparison to Reddit it undoubtedly is just that - bc there is value in that too, but they would need SOME place to feel welcomed, and it’s obviously not here.

Hence they will remain there, on Reddit, where they feel safe and valued. We know this, yet doing something about it is another matter altogether.

Starmer is playing a good game with Trump. He knows the best way to react is not to react. As soon as you say or do anything against Trump he reacts like a mewling toddler. Simply don’t play his game.

The Fantascist is a complete buffoon. Remember when the world used to laugh at George Bush and the silly shit he said? Bush seems like a genius compared to old shitty pants.
