No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What can Trump get away with and what can he not? Hell one president shot an enemy to him. Can he do that?
7·2 months agoWell so far he has committed sexual assault, fraud, corruption, collusion with hostile foreign nations, soliciting election fraud, promoting violent insurrection, promoted murder of political opponents, sexual assault of a minor, bribery, misappropriation of tax payer money, contempt, interference of criminal investigations, war crimes, and lied every day through his miserable goddamn face every goddamn day for the past 10 years, and most of these things he doesn’t just admit to, he brags about.
And most of those things were known before and during his first term. Seems to me he can literally get away with literally anything because American institutions and corporations are complicit in the corruption and madness that permeates in the American political and social sphere, and there is not a shred of integrity in the justice system.
The only thing that will stop him is the American people and so far they have not. It sucks but standing up to fascism when it has gotten this far is a lot of work and takes a lot of organization and sacrifice, so far regular people have not undertaken that difficulty. I believe most of the world is hoping they will.
You could say voting is one way to change things… But voters were the ones who chose Trump… AGAIN. Voting is important of course but it is only one factor in maintaining democracy and American media, culture, education, and many many things have made a LOT of Americans stupid and dangerous. And let’s be real, the Democrats are spineless capitalists who were happy with the system that led to a president like Trump.
Trump famously said he could shoot someone on fifth avenue and he would still win. ICE has already literally murdered American citizens and nothing has happened. Trump has sent Americans to torture prisons outside of the country. Trump has raped children and you have media defending him, he has stolen so much money and caused so many problems for so many people and hundreds of millions of people all over the world defend and worship him.
Its madness. Its all madness and from all the obvious bullshit and lies and just plain assholery and I’ll never understand the appeal of Trump or modern conservativism. It’s all grift and hate and misery for other people and its so obvious and I will just never understand that. And why should he ever stop taking and taking? No one had stopped him so far, he has only gained more power and control the more evil shit he does.
It only ends when good people find the courage to stand up and stop him.
End rant

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's really at the bottom of Trump trying to do a peace deal?
17·3 months agoZelenskyy has proven to be an incredibly intelligent, capable, and strategic leader and thinker. From how he has managed past struggles and other offers from Trump, I do not think he would accept this deal.
I feel Zelenskyy will try to negotiate the deal into a watered-down deal that will amount to no one get anything substantial and having nothing changed, but will let Trump bring back a piece of paper to wave to his MAGA supporters that he is a “peace maker,” to pile on top of his other lies.
I see US support waning to matter what the outcome of this and I am hoping Ukraine will continue its resistance to Russia with increased support from Europe and other Western-allied nations.
My heart will break for Ukraine if the deal is accepted, as it will ensure the continued genocidal acts against the Ukrainian people and culture, and the increased instability of the world, but truly I have absolutely no idea what will happen.
Crazy, awful times we live in and it is so unfair that regular people who are just trying to live their lives in peace are the ones who suffer for madmen who sustain this suffering.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's really at the bottom of Trump trying to do a peace deal?
321·3 months agoTrump has been in bed with Putin and Russia for a long time.
He was even impeached for it, but the United States legal system failed to do anything about it or Trump’s other bazillion crimes, and American voters are the biggest fools on the planet and gave him power again.
Trump has been championing “peace deals” between Russia and Ukraine throughout his second term periodically and they all involve capitulating to Putin and the United States sucking off the teat of Ukraine’s resources.
The reason is money and power. Trump and his team of fascists the world over want to control everything that there is and people like Zelenskyy and the innocent people of Ukraine present an obstacle in that they have been incredibly persistent in standing up against aggression.
Trump and his team have been happy turning the United States into a mafioso oligarchy similar to that of Russia and Putin is therefor a natural ally and has taught them a lot on how to manipulate political systems, media, and populations, and create a system of fear and control.
I have no doubt there is a plethora of corruption, blackmail, and a litany of moral and legal fuckery going on between the oligarchs of Russia and the oligarchs of the United States on a daily basis.
Seems to me Trump’s “peace deal” is a pathway for the US and Russia to split the wealth of Ukraine, disrupt NATO’s ability to defend Europe, and warn others not to stand up to fascism as the new world order.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Convince me of a better system than capitalism that could actually be implemented
6·3 months agoall systems of societal organization have been successful and failures depending on what your criteria are.
if we are talking about people living together in groups with relative safety and most physical needs met, pretty much every economic/political structure has had “success.” monarchies, republics, feudalism, theocracies, agrarian societies, tribal communities with fairly democratic structures have all existed throughout history and have been very successful in many respects and have also contributed to social challenges.
it could be argued that the quality of life that modern people enjoy in developed nations is in large part thanks to technology not necessarily capitalism though capitalism, as any form of economy, certainly plays a significant role in the distribution of those resources and technology.
im not sure if we should define as the mass accumulation of material goods, consumerism, and the grotesquely imbalanced concentration of wealth as “success” necessarily, as all contribute greatly to the incredible destruction of the biosphere, mass extinctions, climate change, and basically the reason society and life on earth is spiralling into a giant pit of hell.
nor is capitalism the most “peaceful” system as proponents claim; the greatest wars and genocides on earth have occurred during the capitalist era. the united states, the great capitalist nation, is in perpetual war and has been pretty much throughout its entire history. how many armed conflicts are happening right now in the world? every one of those countries involved exists in capitalism.
there is enough wealth in the world to afford every person a decent life, to provide healthcare, education, shelter, resources to live and yet this does not occur and as a bonus every ecosystem on earth is in imminent collapse. does not sound like a “success” to me.
could we manage to have a more sustainable and equal society with capitalism? surely it is possible but currently our capitalist structure is deeply sick.
if we are talking about finding the most egalitarian societies, it would probably be some societies in pre-colonial north america or maybe some ancient societies in the indus valley, which are said to have very interesting and fairly equal communities.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the worst apartment you've ever lived in?
12·7 months agoThe day I moved in there were broken beer bottles, cigarette butts, and syringes all over the floor.
The bathroom didn’t have a door and you could see into the shower from the window on the front door. There was no shower head when I moved in.
Water sometimes just didn’t work.
One day one of the lights on the ceiling started smoking, then filled up with water from a leak from the ceiling.
The rent was great though…

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people especially men care if someone forgives a cheating partner
20·7 months agoOkay, good for you…
But just because you gave up drugs doesn’t change what you did. We all own our mistakes for the rest of our lives.
People don’t owe you trust or respect if you break those things. Maybe you can build those things up again with the other people in his life but that takes time.
Also, no. you cheated on him. Most good girlfriends don’t cheat on their partners… What do you expect? Most people think cheating is a shitty thing to do.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people especially men care if someone forgives a cheating partner
212·7 months agoYeah, can’t believe all his friends don’t want him to get back with a cheating drug addict.
People are capable of change, sure, but after showing a pattern of behaviour where you show getting off with someone other than your partner is more important to you than the respect you have for your partner and maintaining that relationship, why should anyone involved trust or care about what you have to say on the matter?
And from all your responses here, it seems like you are really trying to justify cheating and are giving excuses to treating your partner like shit.
Take some responsibility, own your mistakes, and try to be a better person, not get angry at people for what YOU did to YOUR partner.
