I’m pretty sure Nedry was the engineer. Arnold was systems administrator / operator. Neither were computer scientists.
Ah, fascinating. Poor Xerox though.
I think Microsoft put the recycle logo on theirs because Apple used the “Trash bin” moniker and Microsoft wanted to appear more green or whatever.
So he traded Firefox for… basically Chromium.

6·15 days agoI’d still be using my OG Google Pixel if it hadn’t suffered a sudden and unexpected death. I was using it like normal one day and it just turned off.

48·15 days agoYeah, no shit. No one wants to buy a new $1200 phone that does the exact same shit as the last $1200 phone.

You know I don’t think I ever checked out waterfox. I’ll give it a look.
Meh, until there is an actually good alternative to Firefox with a mature extension ecosystem I’ll continue to use it and just disable the new features I don’t like. I have tried a bunch of the alternatives and they’re all either massively lacking in extensions, are chromium-based, or are sketchy in some way. I think the most promising potential replacement is flalkon, but it’s not there yet and I’m a GTK Stan anyway.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Rust developer has 'no plans' for Linux or Proton support, says games that support them are 'not serious about anti-cheat'English
3·19 days agoI tried to get into Rust a few times and never liked it. One time I even played with a decent group of people and it still sucked. They can keep their game.
All of this awareness is really affecting my mental health.
I’m pretty sure Cloudflare requires you to use their nameservers if you purchase a domain through them. So you would need to transfer your domain to another registrar first. I could be wrong though. I’m not an expert on this stuff and prefer to just use a dynamic DNS service instead of paying for a domain.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Cities Panic Over Having to Release Mass Surveillance Recordings
5·23 days agoThat’s why I installed an analog camera DVR system in my home. It cheap, reliable, locally hosted, and best of all I’m the only one with access. (Not counting the Chinese government via the mandated backdoor in the DVR firmware) it’s great!

711·1 month agoIt’s not a fucking speedrun homie. This isn’t shower any%. I’m usually listening to music and enjoying the hot water. Plus if it’s a wash day, washing and conditioning long hair takes a while.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Why do game devs keep making horrible Linux Ports?English
11·1 month agoThis is the exact thing I was telling people when proton came out. Sure it’s great that we can pay Windows games on Linux now but it’s just creating a new problem where developers literally have NO REASON to create native Linux ports. Plus, while proton is great, it’s not perfect. If a game doesn’t work correctly through proton the developer aren’t likely to care that much so fixing it will fall to Valve or the community. I’ve also heard of games getting updates which break or degrade proton compatibility. The developer isn’t likely to care about that situation either.

That’s great and all but Discord is still on my short list of services to ditch.AND FFS DISCORD, I DO NOT WANT NITRO, I JUST WANT TO TALK TO MY FRIENDS!!
